A public-data publishing studio
We find fragmented public records, normalize them into consistent tables, document the decisions, and prepare them for serious research and analysis.
Explore the data before you buy
Search historical bid-item prices for water, sewer and utility construction. Compare prices by unit, browse source-linked samples, and see the coverage behind the $79 edition.
Explore Michigan PricesThe process
Public records are often scattered across agencies, locked in awkward formats, and inconsistent over time. DatasetPress treats provenance, normalization, and quality checks as part of the product.
Identify authoritative public records and their limits.
Record where each value came from and when it was found.
Resolve shifting labels, units, dates, and table structures.
Check types, ranges, duplicates, totals, and exceptions.
Publish definitions, caveats, lineage, and known gaps.
First dataset
Actual historical contractor bids, normalized into a source-linked professional reference for Michigan water and sewer work.
The 2026 Edition contains 15,814 usable normalized historical price observations across 88 project records, with 50 agencies represented in usable data and 133 bidders.
Observed bid dates span January 2023 through July 2026. The edition preserves the underlying wording and sources while keeping interpretation limits visible.
Why DatasetPress
A clean file is only useful when researchers can understand its origin, meaning, changes, and limitations.
Source lineage stays connected to the resulting records.
Stable, normalized fields are prepared for familiar Excel and CSV workflows.
Repeatable checks expose duplicates, gaps, and unusual values.
Definitions and caveats travel with the dataset.
Unknowns, thin samples, and interpretation limits are stated plainly.
Future catalog
DatasetPress will expand into overlooked public datasets where better structure and documentation can unlock meaningful analysis. New catalog entries will appear only after they meet the same provenance, quality, and rights-review standards.
