Activity dates run from January 2, 2019 through September 24, 2026. This is a frozen historical snapshot, not a live permit feed. 2026 is a partial year.

Build a property timeline

Filter by address or parcel, then compare issued permits and review-stage records in date order. Property identifiers connect records across the four layers.

Compare places and types of work

Start with year, ZIP, neighborhood, activity-type and trade summaries, then examine the underlying records. Categories retain an “Other / Unclassified” group instead of forcing uncertain descriptions into a precise label.

Inspect source-published participants

Owner names, trade contact businesses and demolition contractors are included where published by the City. Names describe that filing only; they are not verified identities, current ownership, or proof that a business performed other work at the property.

Inside the download

A working package, not just a raw export.

  • Excel workbook: a filterable activity index, edition guide, source register and analytical summaries.
  • 15 CSV tables: full normalized activity, party relationships, property activity, four source-level tables, six summaries, sources and a data dictionary.
  • 256,419 party/activity relationships: source-published owner, business and demolition-contractor names, with roles and provenance.
  • Traceable methods: conservative property matching, explicit estimate handling and documented interpretation limits.

CSV carries the complete wide tables; the Excel activity index uses a focused set of columns for navigation. Source-level tables omit contact-person and off-property mailing/contact-address columns. Detected phone, email and web-link patterns are redacted from free text.

Is this a count of unique construction projects?

No. Review tasks, building permits and trade permits are separate activities. A review and issued permit may refer to the same permit. A property group does not prove that all records belong to one development project.

Are the dollar amounts actual construction spending?

No. Normalized estimates use positive building-layer contractor estimates only. Estimates, fees and actual spending are different. Do not sum related records as project cost.

Is the historical coverage complete?

The package contains the retrieved records in these four City layers. It is not proof that every historical permit or every construction activity in Detroit is represented.

Who publishes it?
